BNSF changes name of railroad subsidiary
The former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad has a new name: the BNSF Railway Co., which became effective Monday.
Matt Rose, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., said the new name before he rang Monday's closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
'During the 10 years since the merger that created BNSF, much has changed in the railroad landscape. BNSF has identified itself as ' a strong part of the global transportation network. As we look to the future, we believe that our identity should reflect those core attributes,' Rose said in a statement.
The new BNSF identity — BNSF Railway Co. — will be phased in over a period of time, Rose said. The name and new logo will gradually appear on locomotives and other rolling stock.
The railway's parent corporation will retain both its name and stock ticker symbol.
