U.S. COAST GUARD WITHDRAWS PROPOSED RULEMAKING TO FOCUS ON TERRORISM

The U.S. Coast Guard said it’s withdrawing an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking concerning barged liquid bulk hazardous cargoes to focus its resources on rulemakings more closely aligned with homeland security.

The proposed rulemaking for barged liquid bulk hazardous cargoes was first published in the Federal Register on Sept. 9, 1999.

“In the wake of the September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the Coast Guard has had to reevaluate all of its on-going rulemakings to better focus on those affecting homeland security,” the agency said. “We have decided to withdraw this project, as well as all other projects not directly related to homeland security that we do not expect to take significant action on during the coming year.”
