CORRECTION: FMC to discuss NCBFAA’s petition on China

The Shippers’ NewsWire dated Jan. 16 misidentified the nature of the petition “No. P10-03” of the National Custom Brokers and Forwarders Association of America due to be discussed at a Federal Maritime Commission meeting on Wednesday.

The “No. P10-03” petition requests a proposed rule to provide a mechanism by which licensed non-vessel operating common carriers would be able to amend their existing U.S. bonds, as an alternative to making cash deposits in banks located in China, a requirement of China’s new Regulations on International Maritime Transportation.

A separate NCBFAA petition concerning a request for an exemption from requirements that NVOCCs establish, publish, maintain and enforce tariffs on ocean freight rates, “No. P5-03,” is not on the agenda of the Jan. 21 meeting.
