LE HAVREÆS JULY CONTAINER TOTALS SET RECORD
July container traffic through the Port of Le Havre broke monthly records for the third time this year, topping 155,000 TEUs.
Shipments measured in tonnage for the first seven months of 2002 are 14 percent ahead of last year. A port spokesman said the results can be partly attributed to improved productivity of stevedoring operations as well as a 35-percent rise in transshipments in the first half of 2002.
Le Havre, northern Europe's fourth-largest port, posted containerized traffic records in March, with 149,600 TEUs, and June, with 152,092 TEUs.
In 2001 the port handled more than 1.5 million TEUs and 65.5 million tons of total cargo.
