ALGECIRAS TOPPED 2.2-MILLION TEU TRAFFIC IN 2002
The Spanish port of Algeciras, one of Europe’s largest container transshipment hub, handled 2.23 million TEUs in 2002, 4 percent more than the 2.15 million TEUs volume moved in 2001.
The port of Algeciras reported a total cargo throughput for all cargo types of 55 million tons, an increase of 4 percent over 2001.
The port said that it made a net profit after fund contributions last year of 15.5 million euro ($15 million).
The Spanish port plans to invest 56.1 million euro ($54 million) this year, a 133-percent increase when compared to investment in 2002.
