Tennessee court orders the technology company to pay a $500,000 fine for devices shipped in interstate commerce in 2014.
The U.S. District Court in Knoxville, Tenn., has sentenced Berthold Technologies U.S.A. to pay a $500,000 fine and $800 special assessment for misrepresenting devices shipped in interstate commerce.
Berthold pleaded guilty in July 2017 for misrepresenting that the devices had been tested and met Department of Transportation requirements for radioactive containers.
The devices primarily were used by the oil and gasoline industry to measure the density of fluids used in natural gas fracking operations across the United States between March and October 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General.
