Hapag-Lloyd, ONE launching Africa service

Middle East-India-Africa Express (MIAX) is scheduled to start operations in October.

   Hapag-Lloyd (FSE: HLAG) and Ocean Network Express (ONE) will start offering a new container liner service in October connecting ports in Africa and Asia.
   The new service, called the Middle East-India-Africa Express (MIAX) by Hapag-Lloyd and Africa India Middle East (AIM) by ONE, will utilize nine 2,800-TEU ships and start in October.
   Five of the ships will be supplied by Hapag-Lloyd and four by ONE.
   The port rotation will be:
Jebel Ali – Mundra – Nhava Sheva Colombo – La Réunion Durban Cape Town Tema Lagos (Tincan and Apapa) – Cape Town – Durban – Jebel Ali.
   “With MIAX, we are expanding our service offerings for the growing African market and integrating the continent even more tightly into our global network,” said Mark Wottke, senior director trade management Africa at Hapag-Lloyd.
