The U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday afternoon that it was searching for a crew member of a tanker ship about 400 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

The crew member went overboard from the Hellas Gladiator, the Coast Guard said.

An Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130 Hercules aircraft was launched to search for the crew member.

The Hellas Gladiator, a liquefied petroleum gas tanker, reportedly departed the Port of Freeport in Texas on Friday and was en route to Terneuzen in the Netherlands.
