Fergus Caldicott, DAT’s long-term CTO has been appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer of FreightWaves

Fergus Caldicott, the Vice President of Technology has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of FreightWaves. In the role as COO, Caldicott will oversee engineering, product, data science, and operations for the company.

Caldicott has been with DAT since 2004, where he served as the VP of Technology of the largest freight board and benchmark rate provider in the trucking industry. He was involved in the conversion of DAT from a transactional load board provider to a true SaaS business, making the company one of the largest providers of cloud-based software services in the global freight and logistics industry. He also served in an executive capacity as General Manager of Getloaded Inc as the company consolidated operations into DAT.

“We are stoked to have Fergus lead the next stage of our business. His experience in leading one of the most respected and successful SaaS engineering teams in all of freight is a testament to his technical expertise and deep understanding of the market. DAT is the largest marketplace for load postings and benchmark pricing data in the freight market, making the company among the most critical software vendors in the space. A company only gets to this position by ensuring the consistency, user experience, and scalability that a world-class team can deliver,” Craig Fuller, CEO of FreightWaves stated.

Caldicott has been involved in software and technology services for 25 years, including early-stage startups and multinational corporations such as British Telecom. He holds an M.B.A. from the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire in England.

“I have known the FreightWaves team for two years in my role at DAT as the companies have co-developed the first futures contracts based on trucking spot rates in the market. The execution and growth of the company have been remarkable, and I am ecstatic to be a part of their bright future. DAT and FreightWaves will continue to be exceptional partners providing market-critical data and risk management tools to the freight markets, but I wanted to play a deeper role in the success of the market-level data aggregation and analytics business by joining FreightWaves. I can’t wait to get started on this journey,” Caldicott stated.

Over the past year, FreightWaves has become the leading provider of news and analytics for the freight community, publishing hundreds of articles per month about the freight markets.
