Air Asia outsources cargo business to Lufthansa
Low-cost airline Air Asia has signed a three-year contract with Lufthansa Cargo subsidiary “cargo counts” to manage the Malaysian passenger airline’s cargo operations, beginning in September.
The announcement is the second in as many months for the “cargo counts” startup, which signed a deal in May to carry out cargo-related services for German holiday charter carrier Hapag-Lloyd Flug GmbH. Lufthansa created cargo counts as a standalone company after realizing revenue success managing sales, marketing, booking, handling and tracking functions for affiliated carriers Thomas Cook/Condor and Spanair.
Air Asia operates a fleet of 17 Beoing 737-300s.
