Algeciras on board with U.S. Customs’ CSI
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it has completed implementation of its Container Security Initiative in the Spanish port of Algeciras.
Spain signed a CSI declaration with Customs Jan. 8, 2003. Under the program, Customs officers will target high-risk cargo containers destined to the United States. Spanish Customs officials will screened the identified containers for potential terrorist risk.
Algeciras has become the twenty-first port to become CSI operational. Eighteen countries have entered into CSI agreements with the United States.
