Alitalia posts $150 million first half net loss
Alitalia, Italy’s national airline, reported Monday a net loss of 122 million euros ($150 million) for the first six months of the year. In the comparable period in 2004, Alitalia posted a net deficit of 620 million euros.
The airline recorded an operating loss of 149 million euros ($183 million) in the first half of 2005, compared to a loss of 299 million euros in the same period last year. Alitalia’s revenues improved 10 percent to 2.1 billion euros ($2.6 billion), from 1.9 billion euros.
The airline said its fuel expenses for the six-month period increased 49 percent over the first six months of last year.
