Allen nominated as Port Everglades director
The acting director at Port Everglades, former Broward County finance director Phil Allen, has been nominated from among five finalists as the new port director.
According to a report in Friday's South Florida Sun Sentinel, acting county administrator Bertha Henry selected Allen for the post. He must still receive a final endorsement from the county commissioners. Port Everglades, which is adjacent to For Lauderdale, is managed by Broward County.
Allen has been the county finance director since 1986 and has served as acting port director since last June. He took that position after the country removed Ken Krauter, a veteran of the Florida ports industry.
Allen also served as acting port director three years earlier while the county was in the process of selecting Krauter.
The newspaper said the other finalists were Gerry Cafiero, the assistant port director of the Port of Miami; Steven Cernak, director of the Port of Galveston; Susan Hayman, a consultant for the Massachusetts Port Authority; and Edward Oppel, a commissioner of the Port of Palm Beach
