APL, Concor sign Indian intermodal joint venture

APL and India’s state-owned intermodal operator Container Corp. of India (Concor) have agreed to form a joint venture to build and operate a container freight station and container yard north of New Delhi.

The facility is scheduled to open later this year, and will provide services such as cargo consolidation, warehousing, documentation, repairs and value-added logistics services. Concor will be the exclusive provider of intermodal network services.

APL said the new facilities will give it and sister company APL Logistics more operational flexibility and enhance its scope of services in the New Delhi area.

With a capacity of 120,000 TEUs, the container freight station and container yard will be located at Dadri, 40 kilometers northeast of New Delhi. The facilities will be built on 32,000 square meters of land leased from Concor for a period of 30 years.

Set up in 1988, Concor is the public sector, rail freight and multimodal logistics service provider of Indian railways.
