APL DEPLOYS NEW 5,760-TEU SHIP ON ASIA/EUROPE ROUTE
APL is phasing in a new 5,760-TEU containership, the “APL Denmark,” on the Asia/Europe route.
The new vessel is one of four sister vessels added this year to the fleet of APL, the container shipping arm of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines.
Flemming Jacobs, president and chief executive officer of Neptune Orient Lines, said that the vessel was part of a rejuvenation of the APL fleet.
He said there were signs of recovery in world trade and, although freight rates remained low, in time profitability would improve in the shipping industry.
“When that recovery happens, then vessels like APL Denmark and her sisters — the workhorses of our industry — will be needed to match capacity to demand,” Jacobs said
The APL Denmark has joined the China Europe Express service of APL and its alliance partners Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL.
