APL, PARTNERS CLOSE TO ANNOUNCING SHIPPING PORTAL
APL and as-yet-unknown shipping line partners will announce, in the next few days, an agreement to set up a common Internet shipping portal, according to sources close to APL.
The initiative will be seen as a competitive move, following the announcement four weeks ago of the INTTRA Internet liner shipping portal by Maersk Sealand, P&O Nedlloyd, Mediterranean Shipping Co., CMA CGM and Hamburg-Sud.
OOCL, the Hong Kong-based shipping line that is testing a new online product called CargoSmart, is also hoping that other ocean carriers will adopt its system.
