APL signs 20-year terminal agreement in Chiwan

APL has signed a 20-year user agreement with Chiwan Container Terminal, a port operator in China’s fast-growing economic center of Guangdong.

Chiwan, part of the port complex of Shenzhen, is located on the Pearl River delta.

Under the 20-year agreement, APL will gain “additional efficiency and berth capability,” the Singapore-based carrier said.

Neptune Orient Lines, the parent company of APL, said the agreement would provide APL with “greater flexibility to meet the growing needs of customers in the region and manage costs as pressure increases on berth access and rates.”

APL’s business at Chiwan has grown dramatically over the last few years, the company said.
