APM Terminals-led consortium to manage port in Cameroon
Port Autonome de Douala, the port authority of the main port of Cameroon, West Africa, has awarded a 15-year concession to a consortium led by APM Terminals.
Under the concession agreement, the consortium will set up a terminal operating company, Douala International Terminal, to assume the responsibility for management, stevedoring and terminal handling of container and roll-on/roll-off vessels at the facility.
The terminal has two gantry cranes, 660 meters of berth and 17 hectares of container yard with two railheads, as well as a ro/ro ramp. In 2003, the throughput was about 160,000 TEUs, 350,000 cubic meters of breakbulk cargoes and 35,000 vehicles.
