Argentine wine shipments up sharply
Argentine wine exports, spurred by purchases in its leading market, the United States, are showing 'extraordinary' growth and have reached record levels this year, Argentine Agriculture Secretary Miguel Campos said at an inaugural exposition for the wine industry in Buenos Aires.
According to a report in El Sentinel, the Spanish-language publication of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, wine exports this year have reached a record $500 million, up from $290 million in 2005. Prior to this year, wine exports increased 20 percent between 1996 and 2005, the report said.
The leading market for Argentinean wines is the U.S., followed by the United Kingdom and Canada, the report said.
