Artist puts focus on Port Canaveral environment
Local artist Lloyd Behrendt has been selected for the first in a series of oil paintings that will be displayed to depict the various species of birds at Port Canaveral.
'The Port Authority is as committed to its environmental responsibility as its economic mission,' says Tom Goodson, chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners. 'This initiative offers an opportunity to incorporate the beauty of the wildlife found at the port for public enjoyment at our new headquarters building while continuing our public arts program.'
Behrendt's oil on silverprint piece 'Harbormaster' was unveiled at the port commission meeting Wednesday. Port Canaveral also has environmentally oriented programs that include an ongoing Sand Bypass project; right whale monitoring; water quality monitoring; artificial reefs; and a state-of-the-art manatee protection system on the Canaveral Lock.
