Ashby to leave US Airways to head start-up Indian airline

Bruce Ashby, US Airways’ executive vice president-marketing and planning, is resigning from the airline later this month, to become chief executive officer of start-up low-cost airline IndiGo.

IndiGo will be based in India and will focus on the domestic India aviation market.

Ashby has been with US Airways for more than nine years. His current duties will be split amongst the existing management team as the airline prepares for the merger and integration process with America West, US Airways said.

US Airways and America West announced the merger plan in May, and plan to complete the procedure by late September or early October.
