Asia improves curve for January air cargo volumes

   Global air freight tonnage was up 6 percent to 5.1 million metric tons in January, compared to the same month in 2002, according to statistics released by the Airports Council International.

   Cargo volumes grew in all regions, particularly Asia/Pacific which was up 14.8 percent to 1.5 million metric tons. Latin America grew 7.9 percent to 204,482 metric tons and Middle East achieved 6.6 percent growth to 210,549 metric tons. Cargo volume in North America grew 2.3 percent to 2.1 million metric tons while Europe was up 3.1 percent to 995,776 metric tons.
