ASIA/MIDDLE EAST CARRIERS LOWER RISK SURCHARGE
The shipping lines of the Informal Rate Agreement, a conference in the Far East/Middle East trade, have reduced their temporary additional risk surcharge for cargoes to and from Middle East ports, effective yesterday (April 10).
For shipment between the Far East and the Middle East, excluding Iraq, the surcharge was cut from $105 to $84 per TEU.
The surcharge for cargoes between the Far East and Iraq remained unchanged, at $300 per TEU.
The conference said the lower surcharges follow decreases in insurance premium costs paid by ocean carriers operating ships in the region.
