Association offering hazmat training
The International Vessel Operators Hazardous Materials Association is offering International Maritime Dangerous Goods training for workers who need to comply with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.
'Employers of shippers who prepare hazardous materials for transportation by water, water carriers, and associated industries such as freight forwarders, and NVOCCs (non-vessel-operating common carriers) are authorized to train their employees and to provide recurrent training whenever significant amendments in the IMDG Code effect the performance of a hazardous material function,' the association said.
It notes that the IMDG Code is subject to revision through amendments that are published by the International Maritime Organization every two years, and some employees may require training this year. It notes regulations now mandate that training provided to hazmat employees must include a component on Hazardous Material Transportation Security.
The association is offering both basic IMDG and IMDG recurrent training. The sessions will be held in Secaucus, N.J. in May and October.
