ATLAS AIR NAMES ROWE, SHUYLER, MATHENY TO TOP POSTS
Atlas Air, based in Purchase, N.Y., has appointed Brian Rowe as chairman. Rowe, formerly a member of Atlas’s board of directors, succeeds Michael A. Chowdry, who died on Jan. 24 in the crash of a private plane he was piloting.
The company also named Richard H. Shuyler as chief executive officer and James T. Matheny as president and chief operating officer.
Shuyler had been acting CEO since Chowdry’s death. Previously, Matheny served as Atlas’s executive vice president of operations.
Rowe has been on Atlas Air's board since March 1995. He spent his entire career in the aircraft industry and retired as chairman of GE Aircraft Engines of General Electric in February 1995.
Linda Chowdry will take her late husband’s seat on the board. According to a statement issued by the air freight carrier, she and the others named above will operate as an executive committee, overseeing the company’s management and business strategy.
