Bahamas joins CSI
The Bahamas has signed up to join the U.S. government’s Container Security Initiative, the Customs and Border Protection bureau said.
Under the agreement, Bahamian Customs will use container imaging machines to inspect specific outbound cargo shipments identified as suspicious by U.S. Customs officers stationed at the Port of Freeport.
The CSI program is operational in 44 ports around the world and CBP’s goal is to have 50 ports cooperating by the end of the year to prevent
terrorists and their weapons from reaching U.S. shores.
Port Freeport is a major transshipment point in the Caribbean.
