Bahamian prime minister weighs Nassau port options
Newly elected Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham has told members of the Nassau Tourism and Development Board that he will at least considered the relocation of seaport terminals in Nassau away from the downtown area, according to a report in the Nassau Guardian.
The offer to consider the proposal is significant because Ingraham had said during the campaign that there would be no port relocation in Nassau. That has alarmed business interests who have been working for some five years to relocate the port to the southern part of the New Providence Island as part of a plan to renovate the downtown area.
Ingraham had initially commented that the port relocation proposal was 'gone with the previous government.'
