Bill may change way Hueneme port officials are chosen
California State Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, has introduced a bill that would change the way the harbor board is chosen at the Port of Hueneme, according to industry newsletter The Cunningham Report.
Currently, all voters in the Oxnard-Port Hueneme area vote on all members of the five-member governing board. Kuehl's Senate Bill 743 would reportedly change this to either having residents of certain areas elect a board member from that area, or simply do away with the election aspect and have the members appointed by the cities of Oxnard and Port.
Although Kuehl introduced the placeholder bill on Feb. 23, the exact language of the bill has yet to be entered.
