BILL PROPOSES WARTIME SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRAITIONS FOR HSD AGENCIES
Rep. C.W. “Bill” Young, R-Fla., introduced legislation that includes millions of dollars in proposed wartime supplemental appropriations for the Homeland Security Department’s border and port protection agencies in fiscal year 2003, ending Sept. 30, and remaining available until Dec. 31.
Under the proposed legislation, the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection would receive $428 million, of which $193 million would be earmarked for purchasing and deploying portal radiation detectors and other non-intrusive inspection devices.
The Transportation Security Agency would get $390 million, of which $40 million would be for port security grants and $30 million for surface transportation security initiatives.
The Coast Guard would receive $230 million in supplemental appropriations to cover its military operations under Operation Liberty Shield.
