Blair to visit Port of Long Beach today
British Prime Minister Tony Blair will tour the Port of Long Beach today and discuss air emission reduction and security strategies with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the British Consulate announced.
Blair is scheduled at a handful of functions in the Southern California area throughout the day, but his visit to the port is due in part to Long Beach’s relationship with BP, the British oil giant that has become the first company in Long Beach to cold-iron its vessels while in port. Cold-ironing is the electrical powering of ships while docked.
