BLAKEY NOMINATED TO HEAD FAA

President Bush on Wednesday said he has picked Marion C. Blakey to be administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration for a five-year term.

Blakey has served as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board since 2001. From 1992-93, Blakey served as administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Blakey has also held positions at the Department of Commerce, the Department of Education, and the White House. Before her appointment to her NTSB position last year, Blakey was principal of Blakey and Associates, a public affairs consulting firm specializing in transportation issues and traffic safety.

Blakey’s nomination is expected to go to the U.S. Senate for confirmation soon. Blakey is set to replace the outgoing FAA administrator, Jane Garvey, whose term expires Aug. 3.
