BNSF’s net income jumps 47%
Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) reported Tuesday a 47 percent rise in second quarter net income to $366 million, compared to $249 million in the same quarter last year.
Operating income rose 40 percent to $710 million, from $508 million. Revenues improved 17 percent to $3.1 billion, from $2.6 billion.
BNSF’s fuel costs increased 41 percent to $461 million.
BNSF said the latest results marked its 13th consecutive quarter of year-over-year volume increases and the sixth consecutive quarter of double-digit freight revenue growth.
For the year to date, BNSF posted a net income of $687 million, up 55 percent from $442 million in the first half 2004. Operating income jumped 46 percent to $1.3 billion from $918 million. BNSF’s revenues were up 18 percent to $6.1 billion from $5.2 billion.
