Boeing hires 3M’s McNerney as new boss
Boeing has named former 3M head W. James McNerney Jr., as its chairman, president and chief executive officer, replacing interim CEO James A. Bell.
McNerney was chairman and CEO at 3M. He has been a director of Boeing for three-and-a-half years.
Bell is now solely chief financial officer, while Lewis E. Platt becomes lead director.
At the same time, Boeing confirmed an order by Japan Airlines for six 767-300ER airplanes, valued at about $800 million at list prices.
Japan Airline will receive three freighters and three passenger models with deliveries beginning in 2007 and running through early 2008. It is the first time Japan Airlines has ordered 767-300ER freighters.
