Bollinger receives dry dock at New Orleans repair yard
Lockport, La.-based Bollinger Shipyards Inc. received on Dec. 31, a 10,600 tons capacity dry dock at its Bollinger Gulf Repair yard located on the east bank of the Industrial Canal in East New Orleans.
The arrival of the dry dock represents the completion of the first phase of a two-phased cooperative agreement between the state of Louisiana and Bollinger.
For the first phase of the agreement, the state invested $10 million to construct the dry dock while Bollinger committed to adding 500 new shipbuilding and repair jobs at their yards in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana in 2005. The company is hiring at two New Orleans-area facilities.
Bollinger will use the dry dock for vessel repair, maintenance and conversion. The dock has a capacity of 10,600 tons and measures more than 351 feet long and 136 feet wide. The wingwall height of the dry dock above the pontoon deck is 32-feet, one-inch. The distance between wingwalls is 116-feet, 2-inches.
