BONNER SWORN IN AS CUSTOMS COMMISSIONER
Robert Bonner was sworn in as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service Monday.
In his career, Bonner has worked side-by-side with the Customs Service as a federal prosecutor and as the DEA Administrator.
Bonner was appointed to the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 1989 by former President George Bush. Most recently, Bonner was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
A graduate of the University of Maryland and Georgetown Law School, has clerked for a U.S. District Judge and has served for three years on active duty in the U.S. Navy, Judge Advocate General’s Corp. After his military service, Bonner spent four and a half years as an Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles before returning to private practice in 1975. In 1984, he returned to public service as the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, a position he held until 1989.
