Box volume down 5% at Marseilles-Fos
Container throughput at the port of Marseilles-Fos, France, dropped 5 percent in the first three months of this year to 213,000 TEUs.
Volumes at the Fos container terminal were down 4 percent in January-March to 138,000 TEUs. For the month of March, volumes at Fos were up 22 percent at 55,000 TEUs, helping to reduce the quarterly downturn after a 17 percent drop in the first two months. The Marseilles terminals, handling mainly north/south trades, saw a 6-percent volume downturn in the first quarter to 75,000 TEUs.
Total port traffic for the January to end of March period, including bulk cargoes, was up 2.3 percent to 23.3 million tons.
