British Airways pursues Shanghai route
British Airways said it is seeking approval from Chinese authorities to start flying to Shanghai from London this summer.
Shanghai's Pudong Airport is scheduled to open a second runway and the airline is negotiating take-off and landing slots. British Airways said it hopes to offer five Boeing 777 flights per week. The flights offer additional below-deck cargo space for freight forwarders.
The airline will fly from Heathrow International Airport to Beijing six times per week beginning in June, up from the current four times per week. British Airways also flies 17 times per week from Heathrow to Hong Kong with a Boeing 747, with the number of flights rising to 21 in June.
