Broward County administrator resigns

Broward County administrator Pam Brangaccio, who has direct authority over the chiefs of Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, resigned Monday, one day before she was scheduled for her annual performance review.

Brangaccio had been criticized by Broward County commissioners for insufficient oversight of the county-operated airport, and for overall poor communications with the commissioners on county issues.

Brangaccio had been administrator for just over a year, starting the $232,500-a-year job in July 2006. She replaced Roger Desjarlais, who held the post for seven years before leaving to take a public sector job.

One of the candidates for the Broward administrator's job had been Port of Miami Director Bill Johnson, who withdrew from consideration when he was asked by Miami-Dade County to take the port director's job. Johnson is a longtime Miami-Dade executive.
