Busan’s container volumes rise 14% in April

The Busan Port Authority reported that container cargo handled at the Korean port in April reached 1.14 million TEUs, a 13.6 percent increase over the same month last year.

The BPA broke the figures down as 629,000 TEUs of local cargo and 515,000 TEUs of transshipment cargo, up 10 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

“This increase was resulted by the scrapped container tax, which attracted more local cargo to Busan Port and more shipping lines have handled more transshipment cargo at Busan Port,” the port authority said in a statement.
