CANADAÆS FIRST SYSTEM TO REPLACE CSA
FedEx Trade Networks said importers could encounter delays in the future if their drivers are not registered with the Canadian Commercial Driver Registration Program.
The company on Monday posted a notice that once Canada's import release program (Frequent Importer Release System) becomes effective Jan. 1, all drivers involved in FIRST clearance must be registered under Canada's CDRP.
'The new requirement is aimed at increasing border security by ensuring that everyone involved in importation are known low-risk entities,' FedEx Trade Networks said. FedEx said that prompting the registration of more drivers will ease in the transition from FIRST to Customs' Self Assessment as FIRST is phased out in favor of CSA later next year.
