CanadaÆs prime minister names Lapierre as transport minister
Paul Martin, prime minister of Canada, has appointed Jean Lapierre as minister of transport.
Lapierre, a former minister of state for youth and for fitness and amateur sport, has served since 2001 as anchorman for the main evening news program of TQS television.
The parliamentary secretary, or junior minister, to the minister of transport will be Jim Karygiannis.
The parliamentary secretary to the prime minister with special emphasis on U.S.-Canada relations is Marlene Jennings, according to Pam Lambo, a spokesman for the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
