Canadian government wants lumber shippers to go along with trade deal
The Canadian government wants lumber shippers to get behind an agreement that promises to end a two-decade trade dispute with the United States over Canadian softwood lumber.
According to wire reports, Gary Lunn, Canada’s natural resources minister, met with lumber company officials late last week to generate support for the deal. Some of the companies bulked.
Lunn reportedly said that when the lumber companies “push back, I push back even harder because I passionately believe it’s the right thing to do.”
