CANADIAN NATIONAL FILES FOR SHELF PROSPECTUS, $1 BILLION OF DEBT

   Canadian National Railway Co. has made the required filings with Canadian securities regulators and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to acquire a preliminary shelf prospectus that would provide CN the issuance of up to $1 billion of debt securities in Canadian and U.S. markets

   The company said it “expects to use the net proceeds from a sale of debt securities under the shelf prospectus for general corporate purposes, including the redemption and refinancing of outstanding debt, acquisitions and other business opportunities.” A spokeswoman for the company would not comment on specific details regarding possible acquisitions and business opportunities.

   CN is a North American rail service provider based in Montreal, Quebec.
