Canadian National, labor group agree on contract
Canadian National announced a tentative labor agreement with the United Transportation Union covering 375 employees on one of the railroad's lines in western Canada.
In January, about 250 workers from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen on the same line ratified a similar contract, based on hourly wages rather than the decades-old practice of paying railroad workers based on mileage.
If ratified, all of CN's 2,300 train and engine employees in North America would be paid hourly, have job guarantees and more flexible work rules.
