CANADIAN PACIFIC TO MANAGE BROOKLYN YARD
New York City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) said Tuesday that the Canadian Pacific Railroad will operate and manage the 65th Street Rail Yard and transfer bridges in Brooklyn.
In 1999, the Surface Transportation Board called for an operating agreement east of the Hudson River between CSX Transportation and the Canadian Pacific. That agreement “has already increased rail freight service to the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens,” said Michael G. Carey, president of the EDC.
“With Canadian Pacific operating the 65th Street Rail Yard,” Carey said, the city will have met demands “for competitive rail access.”
The EDC also announced that the New York & Atlantic Railway would have a subcontractor role in the Brooklyn operation.
