CANADIAN PACIFICÆS EARNINGS SKYROCKET
Canadian Pacific Railway reported fourth-quarter net income of Canadian $255.8 million ($168.8 million), up 111.5 percent over the year-earlier period, despite a 3.4-percent drop in revenue
Revenue for the railroad, which covers most of Canada as well as 17 states in the U.S. Mideast and Northeast, was Can $928.0 million ($612.3 million), while operating income was Can $232.6 million ($153.5 million), down 8.4 percent.
For calendar year 2000, net income skyrocketed 760 percent to Can $532.3 million ($351.2 million), on revenue of Can $3.66 billion ($2.41 billion), up 4.5 percent. Operating income jumped 31.9 percent to Can $845.2 million ($227.8 million).
