Cargo 2000 adds first ground handling member
Menzies World Cargo is the first airport ground handling company to join Cargo 2000 since the air cargo systems management group invited ground handlers to participate as non-voting associate members in June.
Cargo 2000 is an umbrella group of airlines and freight forwarders established by the International Air Transport Association to develop and implement common technology and business standards in order to improve customer service.
Menzies said it invested $2.7 million in a new business management system to comply with Cargo 2000 quality management standards. Menzies began using the Hermes system in the United Kingdom and Ireland last year. Hermes automates all parts of cargo processing, including inventory control, booking, messaging, customs clearance, scanning and container tracking.
The company, which is experiencing productivity improvements and cost reductions, plans to implement the system at all of its worldwide locations.
