Caricom officials hopeful on Haiti
Caribbean Community (Caricom) officials who visited Haiti this week to review the prospects for Haiti's return into full membership in Caricom say the situation looks hopeful.
The prime ministers of Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis held meetings with Haitian President Rene Pr'val, Prime Minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis and all of the members of the Haitian Senate and lower House, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
The meetings with those leaders followed an earlier visit by a seven-member technical team from Caricom, which had come to assess the situation from legal and administrative standpoints.
The heads of state said they were pleased with progress on the part of Pr'val, who has been in office since February, but added they were concerned about a lack of sufficient support for Haiti from the broader international community.
