CARRIERS ADD SRI LANKA WAR RISK CHARGE
Shipping lines of the India Pakistan Bangladesh Ceylon conference, a carrier group in the Europe/Indian Subcontinent liner trade, said they will introduce a war risk surcharge for shipments to and from Sri Lanka.
“As a result of action taken by insurance underwriters in declaring Sri Lanka a war risk zone and the immediate introduction of a substantial war risk extra premiums to cover vessel calls at Colombo, lines have no alternative other than to pass this charge directly onto their customers,” the conference said.
The war risk surcharge will be $350 per TEU, applicable to eastbound and westbound sailings from August 11.
The conference said that its carrier members regret having to take this course of action, which has been forced upon them by circumstances beyond their control.
The carriers of the India Pakistan Bangladesh Ceylon conference are Andrew Weir Shipping (Ellerman), Pakistan National Shipping Corp., Bangladesh Shipping Corp., P&O Nedlloyd, Ceylon Shipping Corp., Safmarine, Himalaya Express, CMA CGM, Shipping Corp. of India, Contship Containerlines, United Arab Shipping Co., Hapag-Lloyd, Zim Israel Navigation, Maersk Sealand, Rickmers Linie, Senator Lines and Yangming Marine Transport.
