CARRIERS BREAK AWAY IN EUROPE/INDIAN SUBCONTINENT TRADE
Three carriers of the Europe, Pakistan, India Consortium have decided to break away and form a new consortium without their former partners.
CMA CGM, Contship Containerlines and P&O Nedlloyd said that they will form a joint service called “Europe, Pakistan, India Consortium 3” (EPIC 3) from July, without the participation of Safmarine and Andrew Weir Shipping’s Ellerman subsidiary. Safmarine is a subsidiary of the A.P. Moller group. Ellerman is currently in the process of being sold by Andrew Weir Shipping to the Hamburg Sud group.
The Europe, Pakistan, India Consortium operates a direct weekly service in the Europe/Middle East/Indian Subcontinent trade.
“Within the new consortium, the three container shipping lines will maintain current service levels with a seven-ship fleet comprising of five ships in total from Contship Containerlines and CMA CGM, plus two from P&O Nedlloyd,” the carriers said in a joint statement.
